An interview with Rachel Kemp

Q.How long have you been working in the event industry?
A.I’ve been with the company for two and a half years and this is my first job in the industry.
Q.What is your favorite food?
A.Any Tai Food!
Q.How do you spend your free time when you are not at work?
A.I have a second job at a music venue so work dominates my life right now, but I do enjoy watching shows and movies on any streaming platform or spending time with friends.
Q.What book have you recently read that has had an impact on your life?
A.The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer
Q.What’s your favorite type of venue to work with?
A.There is so much beautiful architecture in Washington D.C. and most buildings let you rent spaces so I love that option. I also love the barn weddings that Virginia farmland is perfect for. The pictures are always just stunning.
Q.How would you describe your design style?
A.I’m really a chameleon when it comes to design style, I think different styles work for different events and it’s fun to see the customers personality in the design. I love mixing hard and soft textures.
Q.Are you a DC/Northern Virginia native?
A.Born and raised!
Q.Do you have any pets?
A.I have a bunny and an inherited cat.
Q.What was your most challenging event?
A.I got to assist with the Marine Corps Marathon in my first year with the company. The sheer amount of planning required to execute a job of that size is incredible, and it’s an honor to be able to work on a job as monumental as that. It was a great learning experience.
Q.What was your favorite event?
A.I love Celebrate Fairfax because I’ve been going there since I was a kid. It’s cool to be able to look at the event on the planning side of things
